What is World Pest Day and Why Is It Celebrated?

June 6 marks World Pest Day and it is celebrated globally to spread awareness about pest management, share details about recent developments in pest management technologies, and showcase reports about current pest threats. The event hosts specialists around the globe who attend the event to share their knowledge about pest management and spread awareness about why it is necessary. They focus on highlighting the importance of pest management as it helps in protecting the country from severe diseases, helps in maintaining food security, and results in encouraging great financial savings.

History of World Pest Day

The first World Pest Day was celebrated in Beijing on June 6, 2017. It was an initiative led by the Chinese Pest Control Association and co-sponsored by the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), the Federation of Asian and Oceania Pest Managers Association (FAOPMA), and the Confederation of European Pest Management Associations (CEPA).

CPCA created a cartoon video called “Fatal Pest” to educate the younger generation and children of China to create awareness about pests and professional pest management.

Every year, this day is celebrated by the delegates and executives by the sharing of information in support of this great initiative. They focus on spreading awareness about professional pest control, what they do and how it is beneficial for society.

In 2019, the event was hosted in Arnhem, Netherlands. The Dutch Open Air Museum was filled with delegates and attendees who made it to the event to discuss pest control, preventive techniques to adopt for improving food safety, encouraging better living conditions, and protecting human and animal health. The event was made memorable by various presentations, videos and data reports focusing on how pests impact our daily lives and what we can all do to prevent infestation.

Final Thoughts

Organizations across the globe are focusing to eliminate, or at least minimize, pest infestations that usually occur from homes, offices, schools, malls, cafes, hospitals, and other places. They encourage and educate the community to adopt preventive measures and tips to ensure the cleanliness of the surroundings. Pest management companies on the other hand are continuing to improve their technology and strategies in fighting against these pests while making sure that their methodologies are safe for humans and not harmful to the environment. To win against this battle, everyone needs to be on the same page when it comes to waste management, food disposal, and pest control practices.
